I think it's a windows user permission, vs samba share permissions, vs linux NTFS drive permissions, so my next step is going to be creating matching usernames and passwords on both the Windows PC and the Linux NAS. Please could someone elaborate. Could you share your solution?
Accessing NAS (WD MyCloud) not possible from Windows 10 Explorer
I have looked into tons of Windows workstation service settings, local Group Policy security settings and Samba settings on the NAS, but any access is being denied as long a I am not connected under my own Windows credentials. I hate it when I don't get there myself, but I have thrown the towel in the ring yes, that's a literal translation of a Dutch metaphor :. I think I'm having the same problems you were having when I try to access the windows network share I get permissions and timeout errors.

Today, I installed the latest firmware, but no change. There were two entries.
It also showed it as an icon in the list below under Storage, but since the Windows update, and it stopped working, it has never shown next to the PC - only the storage one remains. All my data is in my private folders. Then you almost certainly have a Windows multiple network credentials problem. Windows will not allow you to connect to different network resources using different credentials. MyCloud Shares are considered different network resources. Public will let anyone access it, so, unless you force Windows to use your MyCloud user credentials when connecting to it, it will use your Windows user credentials.
You need to remove the credentials association for Public using the Credentials Manager. Then reboot the PC. Repeat for each share you wish to use. OK, I finally got in. When I clicked on the folder, a Windows 10 dialogue box popped up and asked me to input credentials. The folder has a label underneath the icon. That label was the user name and there was no password.
Possible solution? This may be apparent to everyone else, but it took me some time and thinking to come up with this solution. I have multiple users that I have added, and they responded to the email invitation sent by the My Cloud device when you set them up and set up a PW. For e. Worked for me perfectly after removing credentials showing my email address as username.

How to Fix WD My Passport Access Denied in Windows
I had purchased it specifically for 3 users on the network, and had added them as users through the MyCloud Dashboard. Not sure what happened but after a couple of days use, these 3 users could no longer access the folders on the MyCloud. They receive the following error when trying to access the MyCloud through the network neighborhood. I have tried resetting the MyCloud by doing a System Restore, but to no avail, the 3 users still get the above error when trying to access the MyCloud, no matter if I add them as users or not.
All our users on the network access our domain via a terminal server thin client. One thing that may be important, is that the all the users log on to our network using thin clients. So there are no computers on the system except the Terminal Server. If the affected users go to the network section, can they see the MCM? And if you create a public folder on the MCM, can they see that and its content? In the case above you should be able to access the MCM, at which point it will ask you for log-in credentials and from there it will determine what you can and cannot have access to based on your user settings on the MCM.
One other question - are the user account names on the MCM the same as those on the Windows log-ins themselves, or are they something different? Will have to check into the control panel credentials, as the users in question are on thin clients. But to the other question, when I added the users who are having problems, MCM sent them an email to verify their email and activate a cloud account I did not know MCM did thisthe users in question registered and changed their passwords at www.
I believe this may be the root of the problem. If that is the problem would it be as simple as the users going back to www. You can then test individually which passwords need to align on the MCM and the network to allow proper access to the box itself, and then go deeper for user account access within the MCM itself once you can access it at all. You can help protect yourself from scammers by verifying that the contact is a Microsoft Agent or Microsoft Employee and that the phone number is an official Microsoft global customer service number. I have searched for this question but all posts were not answering the question.
But I'd like to have another try. It seems to have something to do with the explorer. Although username and password were entered correctly, it does not connect. A connection from Windows 10 is then not possible.
Net use as well as Explorer asks for usernames. Leaving it blank is not accepted by Windows 10 and the connection fails. Maybe there is a security option somewhere, that prevent connections to public, unsecured network drives? In the past with previous Windows versions Windows 7, Windows 10 before some updatesit worked correctly and connecting to the NAS worked fine.

Additional troubleshooting steps you can attempt: - shut all computer and network gear down.I would like to access to any folder, no matter the folder is public or not. So far, in all cases when the folder is not public according to WD My Cloud configurationit is requested a user and password, which data is talking about?
I have no user and password in my windows and not connected to any microsoft account. I have the same issue, only I could access as public but now I can only access the mycloud via the desktop app. Sometimes mycloud shows up in the network, sometimes not. It is kind of confusing. All I wanted was to map the mycloud device as a network drive. Now I cannot even fiddle with how it is mapped to my Sonos system. Any ideas are welcome, and I also wonder if anyone from the outside world that I have not given access to my private network can see the files in the public share on my mycloud device?
I have given cloud access to my family following the instructions in the dashboard, so they have access via the app. What I wonder is if anyone with the app and the IP of my mycloud can access, or if there are extra layers of security. For Windows 10 see the following discussion that has some suggestions of things to check and configure on Windows As to the issue of network security or public access to the My Cloud.
Any time one allows a network device to have inbound remote access from the Internet they are opening up a potential exploit hole in their network.
It is the local network router that uses a network address translation table to route permitted traffic from the public network internet to devices on your local network like the My Cloud.
How secure is the My Cloud from public hacking? That is debatable. One can at least set Shares to Private to limit and control access through the means of passwords for any user you grant access to the My Cloud, either publicly or on the local network.
Generally one should, regardless of the device, practice good security measures for sensitive data. Regarding the safety issue, I think that you answer was in-depth - thanks for that. If I got it right this means that no-one can just surf onto the mycloud device without first hacking the WiFi network I understand that this depends on a number of things that I can do or not do?
And that if someone has the mycloud desktop app they would still need to hack my identity or manage to impersonate someone that I have given access to before being able to access the mycloud drive? If that is so, this is enough answer.
You can set a strong WiFi access password. You can choose never to use WPS to connect devices. Today, I was testing once again, considering the information from Bennor, although is not very clear you have to use the ADMIN user and password, I tried that and it is working now.
So, the same admin and password you use to access in the dasboard, use them in the folders you try to access, just make sure that admin user is allowed for the folders you want to access. On my pc, in Windows Explorer I can access the public folder and the other personal folders. I am the admin so created them all for the users, so I know the sign on and passwords However, I am unable to access my own personal folder in Windows Explorer. When I try to access, I am prompted for my user name and password in which I enter.
Each time, I get a message telling me access denied. Again, I can access my personal folder using the same credentials on the desktop app, the web interface and even on my mobile device. Its only in Windwos Explorer that I am denied access.
I went into the control panel and deleted my user credentials, thinking it would reset it. However that didnt resolve the issue. Do you experience the same behavior in other systems within your network running Microsoft Windows 8 or Windows 7 as opposed to Windows 10?
I just bought MyCloud 3TB few days back and i am facing same problem. I am using Windowns 7. Any solution to this? If you connect to a public share first, no credentials are needed.
If you then connect to a private share needing credentials, windows will object, because it does not allow connection to devices using different credentials. Support Downloads Knowledge Base.
